Return clients are the best! Nothing says you’ve done a great job more than having clients return to have you do their family session. KC and Cali had Tragen March of 2014 and I had the honor of capturing some lifestyle inspired newborn photos. Such a coincidence, Tragen due date in 2014 happened to be our little Josie’s due date this year in 2015! The photo above has to be one of my absolute images from the evening. No smiles from Tragen in this particular photo, but they’re such a beautiful family… add in a gorgeous canyon backdrop and this photo says HUGE canvas all over it 😀

This session is one of the many reasons I love Idaho so much! To see the love of a family and capture these small little moments in time, so they can look back Tragen’s senior year of high school and love their life. You only live once, yolo, right? When you’re old and gray, you will have vague memories of your childhood and adult life, but if you have professional images, you have visual stories! Not just for yourself, but for your kids, your grandkids and even your great grandkids… give them some incredible memories. Tragen won’t remember back to these years, but he can look back at these photos and see just how loved he was and is by his parents. How everything in his life will be shaped and molded from two fun loving people, with a love for the outdoors, hunting and ranching lifestyle, only surpassed by the love they have for their family.

 

Closing note… don’t be afraid to get some annual professional photos taken of your family. Years from now, you’ll be thankful that you did and know that it was money spent wisely 🙂

Lost Memories For Our Youngest Generation

I was inspired to write this post from an article I came across recently, which was written in January. How many of you take photos? Between cameras and camera phones, I’m willing to bet the majority of people do, which is awesome! Such great memories right? How many of you print those photos? Few do these days. While more pictures than ever are being taken, few of those images are actually printed. What happens if your house floods, you have a house fire, your computer crashes or your phone takes a swim? What happens to your photos, your memories?

 

Mike Yost, a photographer from Jacksonville Florida shared his blog post titled, “The Most Photographed Generation Will Have No Pictures in 10 Years!” He quotes that less than 1 out of 100,000 photos that we take, now, are actually printed. That’s no surprise though, right? With the convenience of a smart phone camera and keeping in touch via social media, we don’t think about printing photos anymore. I know I’m guilty.

 

I highly recommend having professionally taken photos printed with a professional. The local store down the street, doesn’t have a high quality printer, so even though you start out with amazing photos, the end result will diminish from a low quality printer. Now it’s unrealistic that have all your photos you take printed at a high quality. No one could ever afford that!  Mpix does a great job at printing compared to most though, so you get a little better quality at an affordable price. Regardless, print your photos!

 

Print your phone photos! Just google to find some options, but a couple are CVS and Postal Pix. I haven’t used either (mainly because I save my phone photos to my computer and then print later), so you’ll have to let me know how they work out when you try it! Another great option, in addition to your prints, are annual yearbooks. We had them in school, right? Why do a family version! It makes scrap booking so much quicker and easier! A couple months before having Josie, I sat down, bound and determined to to make these books I’ve been meaning to do for years. Since the year I met my husband, I created and finished up annual yearbooks and I will continue to each year from now on. It will be much easier year to year than trying to do 5 books in one sitting… it took quite awhile! 🙂

We never think about how truly important photos are of someone until we lose them and it’s the only thing left to hold on to. But let’s hope it never comes to that. Photos will just become lost memories for our youngest generation.

Southern Idaho Senior Photographer – 2016 Senior Model Rep

I’m proud to introduce my 2016 Senior Model Rep, Jessica Gallegos. This young lady is gorgeous, fun and so down to earth! We had a great time doing her mini session last month. It’s great when you have someone so natural in front of the camera. Although we only had 30 minutes, she requested to wear 2 outfits and we made it happen… she’s such a rock star 🙂

 

I normally have at least a couple more senior model reps, but unfortunately the girls I chose were unable to make it work. Thus, instead of the regular four photos, Jessica has more to chose from! When choosing my senior models, its important that they are involved in their schools and communities. Being involved and committed, shows maturity and leadership, which are great qualities to find in a soon to be senior.

 

One of Jessica’s passions is dance and has been doing it for years. She made her dance team this year – so awesome!

 

In her application, I asked her to share with me a quote that represents and inspires her. Her quote was, “Life isn’t about finding yourself , Life is about creating yourself” by George Bernard Shaw. I’ve never heard this quote before, but really love it! Southern Idaho Senior Photographer – Valerie Gonzalez

Valerie is a Southern Idaho senior, graduating with the class of 2015! We were on a bit of a time crunch to get her session done so she could have her prints and announcements before graduation and we made it 🙂

I had the privilege of meeting and taking senior photos for this young lady! Valerie was a lot of fun and had such a vision for how she wanted her senior photos to look. I was honored that she chose and trusted me to bring that vision to life. The setting, was a beautiful background as always and the lighting was gorgeous.

 

You never would’ve guessed she didn’t spend time in front of the camera as she is such a natural! Going through and selecting her photos was somewhat difficult, because there were so many amazing ones to choose from. It’s always nice to have those seniors who are great communicators and getting things done in a timely matter. Valerie has definitely been one of those, which makes my job so much better!

Josie – Southern Idaho Newborn Photographer

My husband and I welcomed our first child into our family last month. I don’t do a lot of newborn sessions and it’s much easier having an assistant or at least a mom to help out! Given that, it took me a while to do some photos for our sweet little Josie, but here they are.

This last month has been a little tiring, but we’ve definitely adjusted well to adding this little bundle to our world. Of course were biased and think she is the cutest baby around!

Agriculture and hunting are kind of a big deal in our family, so while we didn’t do a huge blown out newborn session, we wanted to incorporate some important things from our life. Last, fall while hunting, my husband happened across two moose sheds. Since her nursery is decorated in quakies and moose, it only seemed fitting to add the sheds into some photos as well 🙂 My husband’s sun body hat was another element used for the agriculture aspect of our lives. We both grew up raising livestock and hope to one day be able to do the same with our new little family.

I hope this gives you a little insight into who we are and the new joy of our lives! I’d love to hear more from you though. The search is underway for 2016 Senior Model Rep applicants to represent Katy Starr Photography! Any senior in the Magic Valley graduating in 2016 is able to apply. Drake Wedding – Southern Idaho Photographer

In July, I made my way over to Saratoga, WY for the Drake Wedding. It was a beautiful day and such an awesome couple to work with 🙂 The landscape was amazing with the mountains as a ceremony backdrop. So grateful for the relationships I’ve developed from photo sessions!

I’ve done a couple of weddings this summer, both people I know on a personal level. I really enjoyed my time with the families and sharing memorable images with them. Weddings won’t be a priority session for me at this time though. With my photography business being part-time (in addition to another full-time job), weddings take a little too much time for what I have available. I’m so glad to have been included in the ones I’ve done thus far. I’ve been able to catch up with old friends and work with some pretty amazing people 🙂

Three wonderful girls were selected to represent Katy Starr Photography as 2015 Senior Model Reps and I couldn’t be more pleased. They are outstanding young ladies, passionate about their communities and involvement in school.
